Prospective Student Guide

The University of Utah’s Prospective Student Guide is a comprehensive, redesigned resource created to engage and inform individuals considering enrollment. Originally, the guide was a dense booklet—essentially a condensed version of the Viewbook—that often failed to capture student interest. As part of this project, I reimagined how the Prospective Student Guide and Viewbook could complement each other. The result is a more dynamic, visually engaging piece that acts as a snapshot of the Viewbook, offering just enough detail to spark curiosity without overwhelming the reader.

To better meet the needs of our diverse audience, we developed four distinct versions of the guide, each tailored with custom content and visuals. This segmentation allows each audience to feel directly spoken to, while also giving our Admissions team a more targeted and portable tool for use at college fairs and events.

Each version of the guide features a curated set of imagery showcasing the many sides of life at the U—from thrilling outdoor recreation and vibrant downtown Salt Lake City, to snowcapped peaks, southwest sunsets, and students proudly flashing the U. Bold, red figures leap off the pages, drawing attention to key accolades and reinforcing the University’s outstanding reputation.

Design elements like the upward-facing corner pattern and the use of varied brand colors across different versions help to separate major topics and reinforce the University’s visual identity. The result is a highly visual, easy-to-navigate guide that balances function and storytelling—inviting prospective students to explore the U with curiosity and confidence.
